A fundamentally new approach to electric motor design, inspired by atomic structure. The rotor sits at the center of a spherical shell stator with coils traversing great circle paths.
A hollow spherical shell formed from non-conductive, non-ferrous material houses the rotor. The shell includes precision-machined channels that guide electromagnetic coils along great circle paths. It can be formed as two hemispheres joined at the equator.
A permanent magnet is coupled to a driveshaft and suspended within the spherical shell. The driveshaft extends through both sides, supported by bearings. The magnet can be cylindrical, spherical, or any shape — with spherical magnets enhancing performance.
Three (or multiples of three) electromagnetic coils wind around the shell, each on a unique great circle path. Coils are equiangularly positioned at ~30° to the rotational axis, with 60-120° dihedral angles between each pair.
The coils connect to a three-phase power source in wye or delta configuration. AC power delivered 120° out of phase generates oscillating magnetic fields that produce smooth, powerful rotation. The same design also functions as a highly efficient generator.
